Shelling with a smile
Laevistrombus liveranii
Location:
West Madura Island, Indonesia
By local fishermen; 2019
Size - Grade:
44,83 mm - F++
Slight chipping in the stromb lobe and siphon. With some attachments near the upper lip and in the mouth, indicating this is probably a dead collected shell
Note:
This morph is called L. liveranii is the most recent litterature. I have no opinion on the validity of this species as it seems to be an intermediate form between the real L. canarium from india and the L. vanikorensis from Australia. The shape of all 3 of these morphs, currently seen as valid species in the most recent litterature, is slightly different and consistant within the poppulations. Molecular research is needed to solidify the validity of these taxa. We follow the most recent literature as per usual.
